Ranbir Kapoor is back and how! He will be seen in as many as four upcoming films, the first of them being Wake Up Sid. He talks to Pankaj Sabnani from BIGOYE about the film, his aspirations and more.
You will be seen in Wake Up Sid, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year and Rajneeti. So which role was the toughest for you to play?
Playing Sid in Wake Up Sid was very tough. It’s a very real film. I’m playing a 21-year-old college boy. The story of the film is not of a quintessential Hindi film.
Do you feel that you are threatened by anybody in the industry?
I’m threatened by everyone from Amitabh Bachchan to Darsheel Safari. As an actor you have to be very competitive. More than the actor, the performance also matters. If I see a good performance, I feel jealous and wonder why wasn’t I there. It keeps me going which is a good thing. It aspires me to work harder and keeps me on my toes.`
What are the criteria you look at when you sign a film?
I look at the script, the character, the director and the production house.
What about the money?
Money is not the criterion. I’m not an actor who looks for money. I come from a good family. I don’t need to earn a lot of money to have a roof over my head and roof in my stomach. But I am extremely passionate about cinema. I want to do good work and be part of good films and work with good directors. And I am doing that.
Any actor or actress with whom you would like to work with?
I want to work with Rishi Kapoor. My father is one of my favourite actors. I want to work with all the young and old ladies out there. But I aspire to work more with directors than actors.
Did you manage to catch your father’s latest film, Chintuji?
I was unable to see Chintuji as I was in Bhopal. But will see it soon.
