I am a hero's director: Siddharth Anand

Bollywood director Siddharth Anand whose next film 'Bachna ae Haseeno' features three heroines -Bipasha Basu, Minnisha Lamba and Deepika Padukone - says that he is more of a hero's director.

"I am friends with my leading men. Women are more sensitive to handle," Siddharth told reporters on Saturday.

Speaking about the three leading ladies in his forthcoming movie, Siddharth said his heroines have brought new energy in the film.

"The characters they play are totally different from each other and all three have equal weightage. Otherwise,the three of them who are extremely professional would not have been there in the film, " the director added.

Siddharth said since Ranbir is the protagonist, his role has got more weightage. Speaking about the ladies, the director said except Bipasha, Ranbir, Deepika, Minisha are all newcomers.

"Everybody including myself was virtually in awe of Bipasha on the sets," he said and added that he did not feel any pressure of having three leading ladies in his film.

He said Ranbir Kapoor is the protagonist but he does not play a cassanova. The director also disagreed that the title of the film suggests otherwise.

"Bachna... does not mean warning. The title just conveys the message to watch out as to who will come and steal your hearts," he added.

Siddharth said the age graph of Ranbir's character in the film spans 18 to 30 years of age.

"Among the present set of new heroes, only he could have pulled off such a character. He has portrayed the character with ease. Acting is in his genes and he is a born star. The three women enter at different stages of his life. The film is about love, life and relationships," he added.

'Bachna ae Haseeno' is produced by Yashraj films and is slated for August 15 release.

Siddharth denied that the film's promotion is focussed only on Ranbir and Deepika, because they are off-screen couple as well.

"They started seeing each other after the film's shooting ended. Besides, a film is always promoted as a whole and if the content is good it will work. There are many films featuring real life couples that have not done well," he added.

Siddharth said he had approached Ranbir and Deepika for 'Bachna ae Haseeno' even before their debut films 'Saawariya' and 'Om Shanti Om' respectively were released last year.

To a question on whether he felt he had greater responsibility towards Ranbir as his debut film 'Sawariya' did not do well, Siddharth said a director is responsible to his entire cast -- newcomers and established.

Siddharth said he would have loved to work with Saif Ali Khan again in 'Bachna...' "But, Ranbir suited the role more than Saif," he said.

Siddharth's first two films 'Salaam Namaste' and 'Ta ra rum pum' featured Saif in the lead.

He said Saif and Ranbir were natural actors. "I give space to my actors to perform," he added.

When asked why his last film 'Ta ra rum pum' had fared below expectations, Siddharth said audiences here could not relate to the issue of poverty abroad and the backdrop of car racing.
