Zoya Akhtar has convinced the real life cousins to play the lead roles of a brother and sister in her next venture
Since the beginning of Hindi cinema, the Kapoors have been an integral part of the industry. Spanning over 80 years of contribution to entertainment, the Kapoor khandaan have been named the first family of Bollywood.
And though the brothers have joined hands in many productions till date, the sisters have stayed away from the razzle dazzle. That of course changed when a fourth generation Kapoor, Karisma decided to take her first step into Bollywood.
Today, Kareena Kapoor and her first cousin Ranbir are ruling the silver screen. However, due to reasons unknown, they have never united on screen. A fact that is soon going to change.
Mirror has learnt that Zoya Akhtar after the successful Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara last year has already started planning her next. And for that, the filmmaker has managed to pull off quite a casting coup.
The film will see Ranbir and Kareena sharing screen space as brother and sister – the two protagonists in the film.
According to a source, Zoya has been busy with the script of the film for some time now. But only recently, she managed to convince Ranbir and Kareena to portray the lead roles.
“Both Ranbir and Kareena were always aware that they couldn’t pair romantically for any film. So for them to come together for any project, it needed to have an extraordinary script. Zoya narrated the idea to Kareena while she was shooting for Talaash. Kareena immediately loved it. Ranbir too has given it his consent. The film will now go on floors by the end of this year,” said the source.
Mirror learnt that the film is about the relationship between a brother and a sister – an idea that has been exploited several times in the past. However, since the 1990s, the formula of the brother-sister bond died down.
“Zoya will be reviving the brother-sister relationship genre. And she has now managed to cast real life siblings Ranbir and Kareena for it,” added the source.
Despite repeated attempts Zoya, Ranbir and Kareena remained unavailable for comment.
